Truly great memories. My father flew for PAA and we were stationed in Berlin (70-72) - I just had the opportunity to fly into Tegel last week. I was 5-7 when we lived their, but remember the airport this many years later - seems much smaller now. And no, the level of service on my recent flight was no where close to what PAA was known for.
Many flights around the world, put on a tie and a sport coat, wait listed A1 (I think is was the code) and off to great places, with the safety, security and customer focus of Pan Am behind us.

: So true! I was flying around the world in
: accompanied at 12 and I always knew I would
: be fine. Pan am was family and we did have
: to dress up to travel.
:
: I remember arriving in Seattle from London.
: I had to clear customs and check in again
: for a flight to San Francisco where my aunt
: was waiting for me. Flying sublo was always
: risky, but often I'd get a seat in first
: class. Dressing up made
: All the difference. Ah the good old days!

: Remember flying sublo with your parents?
: Living overseas on the economy? I'm sure we
: all have great stories to share.
:
: I remember flying on 707s when cargo was
: still loaded onto the plan if it wasn't
: full. My brother and I would make a bed
: between the seats and the cargo boxes and
: sleep. Sometimes there were cargo flights
: with a few seats for crew and families,
: those were the best flights, we owned the
: whole plane!
:
: Tell me your story!
:
: During the late-60s & early-to-mid 70s,
: my mother worked for PanAm in Res. and then
: in the Sales Office in Seattle. I remember
: vividly all the trips every spring break
: & summer vacation to Hawaii &
: Europe. I was very young then, so really I
: took them for granted, but now as an adult
: in my 40s, I look back on them and really
: appreciate how truly amazing those trips
: were, and how exciting flying USE to be.
: When I talk about those days, I'm always
: surprised by the reactions of people when I
: describe how truly fabulous & truly
: glamorous flying was in those days; it's
: something people who've only been flying for
: the past 20 or so years can't even fathom,
: which is really sad.
