Since Mellon/Guilford , let the original PanAm Trademark #72037672 from 1957 become cancelled May 2009, therefore there are NO trademark rights to sell for a US Airline. Overseas is something else.
Guilford now only owns the name PanAm for travel
accessories, clothing mugs or his railroad in the US. He/they could have maintained the logo on one airplane to renew this original registration but apparently has choosen not to.

: Lorenzo,I don't mean to offend anybody,and
: not
: one of my previous comments on this board
: has been "disgruntled" so far,in
: fact I have even tried to be a helpfull
: source for some Panamairs out there, because
: not everyone knows where to look for
: interesting stuff on Pan Am,because a lot of
: it is sort of hidden, and I have made it into
: a hobby to dig some of this stuff up...what
: I commented on the "name change",I
: agree,I should have said it differently,but
: to an Air New Zealand customer,it will in
: fact look like a name change,if indeed those
: aircraft are getting painted the way you're
: saying,and that's one reason why I don't
: believe it.I'm not at all calling anyone
: stupid.I can understand that some people
: feel offended by my comment about Pan Am as
: "an airline plagued by bad luck and
: mismanagement",but read the facts.It
: really was like that:buying too many
: 747s,almost on the eve of an oil-crisis,and
: continuing to do so with the SP,and other
: planes, even though they were in financial
: trouble.Then,in 1980,they bought up National
: for a lot of money,whilst a year later,they
: could have gotten their hands on the
: domestic routes for much less....Then came
: Pan Am 103,and in between there were quite a
: few incidents as well, until in 1991 they
: were gone forever....sad,yes,but very
: true.Now you're saying that a fairly healthy
: kiwi carrier, will paint their aircraft like
: Pan Am,and will put the name pan Am on their
: fuselages,Clipper name and all,because they
: bought the naming rights from Boston
: Maine, all the way in the states.A company
: which couldn't keep that name flying
: either,I might add.....I'd love to meet the
: chairman and ask him..... WHY??I just do not
: believe it.That's all..I wonder who else
: does.greetings.

: Hello,Lorenzo.If it's a "secret
: deal",then how did you get the
: information?as far as the story you
: told,well,I don't believe a word of it.Why
: would a well known New Zealand carrier, which
: is likely well trusted by a steady stream of
: customers over the years, want to change it's
: name to the name of a carrier, which was
: plagued with bad luck,and
: mismanagement, causing it to go bankrupt many
: years ago??Don't get me wrong,I would love
: to see the Clippers, and blue ball fly the
: skies again, but if your story is true, then
: it's likely bye bye to another big
: airline...furthermore,the name Pan Am,as in
: Pan American, wouldn't really fit an airline
: based in New Zealand, now would
: it??Greetings.

: Hello many viewrs it has being announced
: today
: that the Kiwi carrier namely AIR NEW ZEALAND
: is set to buy out the namming rights of the
: PAN AM logo and carry it on all there
: aircraft. Boston Marine airways has made a
: sercret deal with Air NZ to buy the logo
: originally the Queen of the skies most of
: the AIR NZ fleet will have the clipper names
: added to the aircraft. A few panit jobs to
: domestic and international jets will be
: repainted as the original PAN AM livery
: colours of 1990's bearing the name bold
: letters on the aircraft PAN AM NZ OR PAN AM
: New Zealand with the blue ball on the tail.
: Pretty neat. I will keep you up todate with
: more info as it comes to hand. It's not on
: the AIR NZ site just yet it will appear
: soon. Thank you

: "Hi Frank I don't know what cloud your
: on but if you read my comments properley and
: look before you leap. I said Air NZ are
: buying the namming rights of the PAN AM name
: sake "NOT CHANGING THE KIWI CARRIER'S
: NAME AT ALL" It;s up to the airline or
: anyone in this world to buy whatever they
: like. I am also appaulled at the way you
: make your views or opinions on such a great
: historical airline that broke records and
: was the first airliner to travel the globe
: and to add the first to introduce the jet
: age era of the Boeing 707's 747's or maybe i
: can say like other PAN AM employee's who
: read your disgruntlled comments which you
: have offended, that PAN AMERICAN WORLD
: AIRWAYS or PAN AM was around way before you
: were created in this world we all live in.
: Secondly "FRANK" without
: disrespect to all you shouldn't accuse
: people of lying until you can prove that. It
: sounds like to me your one of the few people
: who are known by other messages or a hoax
: person who has visited this site and caused
: the suspension of the board before in a
: different name. We aren't stuiped people
: "Frank". Thirdly when i refer to
: repainting aircraft decals which AIR NZ has
: done in the past with there fleet of
: 747-219's 767'219 jets completely painted
: them white with blue decals of other
: airliners they have leased there aircraft
: to.
:
: PAST HISTORY KIWI TE OR NZ JETS LEASED
:
: ZK-NZY 747-219 REPAINED 1993-1996 AIR
: PACIFIC
: ZK-NZZ 747-219 REPAINTED AIRTOURS LEASED

: "RETIRED"
:
: The list goes on Frank so if AIR NZ will
: repaint some domestic jets to the PAN AM i
: am sure the world and everyone who worked
: for the Queen of the skies knows and would
: be proud that she lives again thanks to a
: well maintaind record serviced airline. I
: wouldn't down PAN AM at least they have
: never had there records broken by other
: airliners to date flying no stop around the
: world in record time with 747-121 or 747sp
: jets or the 707's Thank you "Frank for
: offending this PAN AM site and the people
: who worked for her and built her and those
: wonderful PANAMAIRS out there who have flown
: her and have the memories of her.

:
:Hello Frank Lorenzo. I read your comments all
: about this namming rights and painting of
: great Air New Zealand aircraft being
: repainted. The green and Blue birds of the
: Pacific have no interest or have tried to
: get the namming rights of PAN AM put onto
: there aircraft. I have very good close
: asscoiates of mine who have worked for Air
: NZ for the the past 30 years since the days
: of the DC-8'S DC10-30'S 762'S were around
: and now long gone. I agree with you Frank
: but why would the kiwi carrier want to make
: such a move to repaint there own aircraft.
: The Clipper names would never be put onto
: there aircraft only the Moari names would be
: inserted which they are today. In the early
: years yes both carriers helped each other
: out when there were cancalled flights or
: groundings like the world wide grounding of
: all DC10 jets after the AA accident in 1979.
: Pan am chartered three 747-121's to help the
: kiwi carrier out and also on there PA
: flights to LAX took on board stranded Air NZ
: passengers. Air New Zealand prides itself on
: there achivements awards and service and has
: no intention of repainting there jets to
: another carriers name to compete in there
: own soil or land. Why would they make such
: an attempt to do that. The only way they
: would repaint there jets if they were to be
: leased out to another carrier overseas as a
: replacement aircraft or for extra flights on
: short or long term leases. I honestly don't
: know where you got that info from Lorenzo it
: not true at all. Have a good
: one---WS--thanks
