Loss of Pan Am

Hi guys, I wantewd to know, why did Pan Am become bankrpt and stop services. It's a ashame as it was one of the worlds major airlines, and i grew up with it thinking that. That blue global emblem stood out from the rest. I know the lockerbie bombing affected it alot, and they lost alot of money, but why did they just becme nothinf after 1991? mike
