: Janet---Could you tell us more about that
: Guam-South Africa trip?---Thanks--KB
: Hi Ken-I can't remember much more except it
: was in the fall of 1977. A businessman from
: Guam and I were the only people from the
: Pacific to be invited on the flight. Others
: were travel agents, writers, etc. from the
: States. I flew to San Francisco to get visas
: for Brazil and South Africa, then to New
: York, then to Rio. We stayed in Rio a few
: days, then flew the first flight (so I
: thought) between Rio and Johannesburg. We
: spent one night in J-burg, then flew to Cape
: Town and back to Rio. Pan Am invited me
: because I was a reporter and feature writer
: on Guam. Wish I could tell you more except I
: enjoyed the entire trip!

: I was privileged to be on Pan Am's inaugural
: flight from Rio de Janeiro to
: Johannesburg,South Africa, in 1977. I
: recently visited Rio and am writing a story
: about my two visits there. Can anyone tell
: me the type of aircraft on that flight? I
: would appreciate any facts about that trip
: and interesting details. I'll never forget
: that fabulous trip from Guam to South Africa
: and return on First Class Pan Am. Thanks,

:Hi Juan Ken Janet and other people. I can recall this flight in 1977 from JFK,NRT JNB.
Last flight by 747sp PAN AM aircraft was in Feb
1982 as PAN AM was selling off there baby jumbo
fleet to UAL . PA 234 A/C 747sp21 Clipper Liberty Belle N539PA..?? correct me if i am wrong
if thats the rego to this Clipper jet. As a
politican for the African Goverment at the time
many of our Adminstration staff flew this route
which was the quickest and less timming for a
flight. Under comarnd of captain Briggs F/O
J Heffernan F/E S Moody. This can be found at
Google search world wide the history of this
flight. It was later taken over by the much larger 747-100's and in 1986 due to cut backs with PAN AM this route ceased with the airline and with the tiers between the African Goverment for which Africa became unsafe for travelling to.
Thank you
Emmanual Kizroy
former PAN AM passenger / African Goverment of somarlia/Kenya/congo proverlince
