: I was reading an interesting article
: publised
: back in 1977 in the time mag which Juan
: Trippe commented about the introduction of
: these extrodanary jumbo jets the 747-100's
: back then. Featured in this article was
: about this particular aircraft Clipper
: Victor which was lost on the runway at
: Tenerife back in 1977 because of the arogant
: Dutch captain who caused this horrific
: crash, Juan Trippe said this particular 747
: isn't the same as all the other 747's PAN AM
: have in there fleet??. What does he mean. He
: said this jet was plagued with problems from
: the start when it was delivered as Clipper
: young America before being renamed Clipper
: Victor. It was like a ghost ship to the
: fleet. N736PA VICTOR YANKEE was meant to
: have being the aircraft to fly around the
: world non stop but a replacement 747 had
: taken it's place N733PA another 747-100 jet
: of PAN AM'S fleet. Juan Trippe said they
: were sold a lemon or a sucker from Boeing.
: Later or the month after this article was
: published Boeing replied back very strongly
: about the comments saying all 747's were
: built to FAA standards and airworthy and all
: interior or painting design work was done by
: the clients instructions not Boeing. Further
: more N736PA was no proto type aircraft that
: Boeing used as a test jet. But every 747-100
: sold is tested before delivery to insure
: high standards and preformance is complete
: before it leaves the boeing feild to the
: client. Boeing also indicated this
: particular 747 when it had problem's was the
: fault of maintance shedules with the
: operator being PAN AM as it missed a number
: of flight maintance including a B check. But
: PAN AM declined to provide this to the FAA
: or Boeing. Just before the accident out on
: the runway at Tenerife that month N736PA was
: ordered by Boeing to have it brought back to
: Boeing in Seattle to undergo and preform a
: complete over haul. Juan Trippe agreed with
: this yet the sheduled trip was called off as
: Juan said the aircraft was needed to cope
: with the ever so popular passenger loadings
: as they didn't have a preplacement 747 on
: hand to take over VICTOR YANKEE'S shedules
: for that month. So getting back to the
: question why did Juan Trippe say this was a
: ghost ship or a lemon to the PAN AM fleet.
: Why didn't he lease it out on long term
: leases to keep it out of the PAN AM fleet or
: even store it for a few years like he did
: with other 747's . Thank you

:Hi Kyle i read your very exstinsive comments
: you posted on this board. You might have
: gone a little over board and shall i say
: without respect for the employees of the
: former PAN AM staff of what you have
: commented on. Firstly in relation to our
: jumbo jet Clipper Victor N736PA that you
: state being a editor or gossiping your
: unbeleivable stories as always with the
: media. This particular aircraft was not a
: ghost aircraft obviously you being reading
: horror stories or books of the past. N736PA
: was a perfectly normal 747 like all other
: 747's delivered to the PAA fleet. It was
: never plauged with problems at all. Secondly
: we had a most inspiring and caring boss who
: delivered promises and became a house hold
: name for the rise of PAN AM and it's forever
: long lasting ledgendary services which to
: date no airline operator in the world have
: matched that record. JUAN TRIPPE was a very
: proud boss who changed and revolutionised
: the jet age era being the first to fly
: Boeing 707 jets across the world and the
: almighty 747 and the 747sp21 jets along with
: it. He had pride in his fleet and looked
: upon the fuuture of dominating air travel.
: Thirdly i don't think for a minute Juan
: Trippe would lease out long term newer
: aircraft when it was ever so popular back
: then and he would never send back a 747 jet
: to Boeing unless Boeing would recall the jet
: and Boeing never have recalleda PAA 747 jet
: to date or even in the PAA data records.Juan
: never spoke or called his aircraft lemon's
: or suckers I think thats you with you media
: imagination making that up. Fourthly i have
: a copy of that time MAG about the incident
: of N736PA that terrible day. It dosen't
: state what comments you made against our
: boss. I do however agree with you about the
: Dutch pilot. As a very well experinced PAA
: 747 veteran pilot no body or any airline
: today or from the past is perfect. If they
: say they are. They are fools to themselves
: and can become a victim to a computer error.
: Remember Kyle computers spring traps beyond
: human prediction and thats being proven in
: the past. Even the world's best run airline
: can have a fatality to it's name Like SIA
: was great airline but a sad day for them as
: well.. So i hope you realise being a editor
: that you get your info correct and the
: history of PAN AM correct as well. Don't
: down such a great airline of the past. Thank
: you----WS

Hello, there is a message on page 6 of this board which also states that there were many problems with this aircraft. The person whom posted it also says that N736PA was actually ordered by another airline, but not taken up,and delivered to PAA instead. The message is very unclear about who the plane was meant for to begin with :Air Canada,or BOAC,I responded by asking, but never got an answer.I wonder if these statements are really all rumours,or if there could actually be some truth in them.I don't mean to be rude, but I don't see any disrespect in asking about it.I am,by the way, sorry that our Dutch pilot was such an arrogant man on the fatefull afternoon of the collision, but there were a lot of things wrong on that day.Greetings...
