: Hi!
: I am a Veteran Service Officer here in
: North Idaho. I have a veteran whom the VA
: is denying his claim for disability because
: there is no proof that he ever landed in
: Vietnam. I was hoping someone would have
: access to a flight manifest showing him on
: it and that it landed at Saigon. The flight
: originated from San Francisco and landed at
: Saigon en-route to Thailand. It might have
: stopped in Guam on the way also. The flight
: departed on 25/26 December 1964/65. The
: soldier's name was Jack Sparks of the US
: Army.
: Any help in getting this informaiton is
: appreciated!!!
:
: Thank you!!!

:Hi Kurt I worked for PAN AM back when we sent
: troops to vietnam back in 1962-1965 which
: were classified charter flights with the
: USAF. Getting this info is very unlikely
: from the US Goverment or the USAF as it
: contains materials for the USAF only. PAN
: AMERICAN had no data kept to disclose to the
: public or ther travelling troop personell
: passenger listings. I can only say if you or
: the person who was on those troop flights or
: aircrew would be able to help you. Thank you

Hi Kurt,
I know that his DD-214 does not show foreign service time but if he was in the Vietnam conflict there must be a medal, citation, decoration or ribbon awarded to him for just being there. This would prove he was in the area. Look in box #26 or #27 on the DD 214. Also check for unit assignment or transfers. It would be nice if the DD 214 was more specific and indicated duty stations along with transfer dates.
Many military people do not save their individual transfer orders because they are not always aware how important they can be in situations as he is in now.
Julia is correct as crew members we had no list or idea who the passengers were. Usually military personnel at arrival points in Vietnam did the handling of the pax. Also, there were several other airlines contracted to carry military personnel to Vietnam, which only ands to the confusion. God bless him and I wish the best for him.
