Attention Pan Amers! The Gas Station's Gerd Hitzegar flies west.
For those who had the pleasure of laying over in FRA and spending an evening at Gerd's restaurant, the Baseler Eck or more commonly known among airline crews as the Gas station because it was located behind an Aral gas station in down town Frankfurt, it is sad news to hear of his passing. No matter where your flight departed from in the world, one always looked forward to the FRA layover and Gerd's good German essen, beir and an abundance of warm hospitality from an extraordinary warm gentleman who loved Pan Am. He will be missed by all former Pan Am friends who considered him a colleague!
