Unfortunaley she is now : scrapped her last operator was TOWER AIR who : aquired her after the demise of PAN AM. : N743PA was named Clipper Derby and entered : service with PAN AM in 1970. Her c/n was : 19650/24 while she was in service with PAN : AM she was leased for six months in the : early seventies to American Airlines then : she was returned repainted to her PAN AM : colour scheme she was then renamed Clipper : Black sea. When she bacame a Tower Air jet : her rego then was N617FF now this ex PAA : rego belongs to another airline operating : with this rego. : : In 1979 after a few bad accidents with the : DC-10 jets and the groundings PAN AM was put : into red alert action for airlines stranded : who used the DC-10 jets. Air New Zealand did : charter a PAN AM 747-123 jet but this wasn't : N743PA this was the regular jet on this long : haul Pacific route Called Clipper Neptunes : Car now also scrapped at Marina Pinal Park : N742PA C/N 196491/18 which was the sister : aircraft to N743PA. Qantas had there own : fleet of 747-238 jets. I can say there were : many charter flights made by PAN AM from : airlines around the world and some of our : 747's 747sp jets L1011'A were pulled from : maintance to be used to cover the stranded : airliners with passengers.
