Hi Angela,
I'll answer the question on ex N740PA, Clipper Ocean Pearl and leave the other for my friends. One good answer is cost. N740PA was grounded by the FAA due to cargo door problems. It would take a lot of money to refurbish this 747 and put it back into service again. Keep in mind that JFK airport is located in a very humid and salty environment. N740PA has been sitting around for over 8 years.

: Hi everyone can some one tell me why the two
: remaining EX PAN AM jumbo's now left
: derelect for many years in storage N740PA,
: N755PA which tower air leased for PAN AM
: even after the collapse. Does anyone know
: what will become of there airframes or hulk
: which isn't a nice way to put our former PAA
: ladie's. They served well with PAN AM for
: many years in all sort of conditions like
: other PAA aircraft did. They look so run
: down poor things. I remember my last flight
: on N755PA Clipper Sovergin of the seas from
: HKG/LAX beautiful flight back in 1988 she
: preformed well winging her way high up in
: the icy skies over the pacific crusing
: queitly. When we landed in LAX exellent
: landing very smooth and the roar of her jet
: thrust engines in reverse slowing the
: gleaming ladie to taxi speed and up to the
: gate along side her sister ship departing
: for JFK/MIA N724PA a later 747-200B jet and
: a few DC10'S & PAA 747 aircraft parked
: up unloading from long haul flights having a
: rest. I wish we could see that image again
: with the Queen of the skies. Our PAN AM
: Thank you

: Best Wishes to all
