: Hi Pijat i read your coments I can say as a pilot who flew China Clipper in 1979 JFK/LAX/SYD she was like our other 747sp jets a great rider and a very good survivor to date. Her Carrer stared with our PAN AM back on 11th May 1979 when she was delivered to us as China Clipper in 1981 PAN AM was cutting back on aircraft and looking at the future and replacement aircraft indeed these 747sp could last longer then there life with there carriers if well maintained or sold off. She had a change of owner ship to UNITED AIRLINES as N149UA she was then stored and purchased from BAHARIN AMIRI AIRLINES where she is looking exellent today in her shinnig colours and re fitted. Her line production number was C/N 21649/373. Only three of our 747sp21 jets are active to date the others were broken up at Majove or Marina Pinal Park storage facility's. I know for a fact UAL disposed of these jets as they were in finacail difficulties and stored them which was cheaper then flying them or waitng for a buyer at a very cheap price from the storsge area's like they do today with later 747's un believable. I hope this helps you
Thank you.

: N540PA a PAN AM babay jumbo might be today
: also why did PAN AM ever sell off these
: aircraft and not keep them until 1991 which
: they would have kept the airline going with

: flights. Why on earth did they sell them to
: UAl They only disposed of them later and
: sent them to the scrap man like they do even
: with there 747-440 they store in the deserts
: or the scrap mans hands un believeable. So
