Hey willie,
Great that you was a pan am pilot, that must have been a great experiance.
I'm only 25, and from London, and remember when I was about 6 me and my fmly flew on a Pan Am 747 to New York, I can't remember whether it was from Heathrow or Gatwick.
I used to have the toy aeroplanes of the 747 pan am's too, ahh the memories. If Pan Am would have stayed on, I hope they would have kept the original logo, cos I don't like what British airways did to theirs in 1997, they changed the logo completely. Bad. Hvae a good day
Mike

: I was just wondering, why Pan am never
: ordered any 747 400's, as the 400 model
: was made from 1985, 6 years before they
: fell apart.
:
: I think the 747 400 would have looked great
: with the pan am logo

: Hi Mike while i am over here in the USA i
: looked at your comments. Maybe scolling down
: the page and reading this web pages history
: will help you with some of those answers.
: However being a captain and piloting PAN
: AM's 747'S 747SP JETS many years ago. The
: main reasons for PAN AM not looking at the
: 747-400's was there finacail strain on the
: airline and cut backs and fleet sales or
: disposals occuring as well as the Lockerbie
: incident which hurt the airline a great
: deal. If PAN AM was still around they would
: have looked at the 747-400 to replace the
: entire 747 100 fleet of aging jets and they
: would have proberbly looked at the Boeing
: 777's or MD 11'S to replace the DC-10 jets I
: know and did here they were looking at the
: Boeing 767-200's when they first arrived on
: the scene. If they were around today they
: would have being in the race for more
: advanced jets or the Dreamliner Boeing 787ER
: jets just like other American carriers Mike.
: But all these idea's soon came to an a brupt
: end for PAN AM but all I can say Mike Nobody
: will ever for get her and the jet age era
: she brought onto the world and still today
: unbeaten record for flying. Thank you
