Pan Am, why didn't the airline order any 747 400's? as the model was around from 1985

I was just wondering, why Pan am never ordered any 747 400's, as the 400 model was made from 1985, 6 years before they fell apart. I think the 747 400 would have looked great with the pan am logo Mike
