: Hello everyone.Looking at the old photo's of
: 747 aircraft,I noticed that the very old Pan
: Am 100's all have a buldge on top of the
: fuselage, right in the crease which divedes
: the upper deck from the main cabin.I noticed
: that about halfway into the seventies, the
: buldge was removed. Can anyone tell me what
: it's purpose was?Was it used just on the Pan
: am jets?Thank you.Trying to find out what I
: can about these magnificant aircraft.

Hi Mark & Frank Pan Am brought out a few postcards of the 747-100 one in particular was a pan am jumbo climbing or banking right which the picture was taken above the jet showing this bulge on the upper capsule of the early 747's one of the reasons for this is the airframe was to straight and long so Boeing recalled a number of 747-100's from Pan Am to slightly bend the airframe to give it charactor or more better looking. TWA also had this on there jets and recalled there 747-100s back in the late 1969 early seventies. If you can get hold of a postcard of this 747 you might notice it on the jet in the photo I do have one if you would like me to email it to you and to my good friend Mark. Thank you
former PAA employee
