I would start digging around the tree no closer than 2 feet from the trunk. You don't want to cut too many roots. You will have to dig down several feet and then dig under the root ball to get it all out. This will not be an easy task and the tree and rootball together will be hideously heavy. I would water the ground around the tree very heavily for a couple of days before you start this process. Okay, can anyone else out there offer more advice to make this happen.
