: I've got a queen palm that's got a bit of
: trouble. First off, it was neglected in
: a shady portion of my mother in law's
: backyard for two years- so I've kind of
: adopted it, spotty leaves and all. I
: transplanted it in the proper type of
: location at my house. Lots of sun,
: water & fertilizer- so I know that
: shouldn't be the problem.
: The emerging leaf has drooped over-
: it's about halfway emerged. upon
: inspection, the leaf that's emerging is
: a much lighter green and it has white
: splotches about 1/16" diameter
: dispersed all over the it (the
: individual leaves- I cant think of the
: scientific name for the individual
: leaflets). Looking further into the
: base of the palm- where the leaf is
: emerging from, I see a bit of what
: appears to be a whit cottoney
: substance- not excessive like with
: mealybugs or scale- just a light whisp
: of cottony stuff everywhere in the
: base. It's a little sticky too. I've
: seen a few ants here & there on the
: palm too, so maybe they're bringing
: something in? Or could it be a fungal
: infection? Any suggestions??? Please,
: any and all help is appreciated!

Hello Patty Its probably the start of mealy bugs. Treat with a systemic insecticide. The light green is usually caused by too much water. I would treat for the ants while your at it. Hope this helps,John.
