Posted by BO in Austin We've been watering every other day and giving her plenty of sun baths. We've purchased Carl Poole's palm food, and so far, so good! Are there any parenting tips to insure that she'll make it until we move? What is the best way to transplant to a bigger pot, yet still be able to drop it in ground later? I am thinking of lining my next pot with burlap, but will this be strong enough to support the weight of the palm when we drop it in ground? How big will she get in 10 months? Am I going to have to resort to heavy machinery to plant this sucker? Any tips would be most helpful. Thanks -- Bo.

Last week, me and my girl bought a 3' potted Mexican Fan Palm (Washingtonia robusta), and want to keep it in the pot for another 10 months-or-so before we move into a bigger house. We've read that the critical months are at first, and then they get more hearty as they get bigger and more established. We've also learned that long-term they tend to do better in the ground than in a pot.
