John sounds like you neighbor doesn't want you to plant Queens.
I live live in Gold Canyon AZ and some neighbor said the same thing to me when I planted Pigmy Date palms. Scorpions do not live in palm trees but rather under rocks and assorted junk to stay cool. They'd much rather live in my house or garage than a palm tree. Plant away.
