It is surprising to hear that palm trunk could actually grow new crown of fronds. I will find out if anything else was done to trunk when it was cut 4-5 months ago. The standing trunk currently has a bougambilia plant that wraps around it.

: The reason I say this is because its an
: accepted practice to help a
: Washingtonia recover from bud rot by
: removing sections of the trunk until
: you reach live bud tissue.
: I have done this myself and the palms
: recovered nicely. You cannot tell from
: looking at them now, that this ever

: But you must prevent bud rot until it

: the top of this palm tree was cut off,

: mean it will remain standing or could
: it actually regrow new palm fans?

: It may actually recover next summer.
: Cutting into the trunk doesn't
: necessarily mean it will die.
: You will know for sure by June of next
: year.
: At this point you should apply a
: fungicide to the crown to help prevent
: bud rot and try to keep the crown as
: dry as possibly during the winter.

: The trunk of a tall Mexican or
