:Steve it would be helpful to know what
: kind of palm it is and your growing
: zone
:
:We are at growing zone 8 and it is a
: mexican plam the best to my knowledge.
: Mexican palms are not cold hardy. The best thing you can do is wrap the trunk with a thick blanket (I use regular house insulation) tie up the leaves protecting the spear is important. Apply Consan to the bud spear before a severe freeze. You can remove this after it warms up and repeat the process with the next freeze. Depending on how big it is and how long its been in the ground it should come back next year. You can expect to loose all the leaves. Mine are getting burnt pretty good to. If the trunk wrap get wet I'd pull it off and let it dry out if possible. Some cold hardy choices are butia captia, sabals, mediterranean fan, chinese windmill and california fan you wont have to worry about these too much. Good luck with yours, come on spring, John
