I live in So. California. My fishtail palm, about 15' tall, was blown down in the high winds we had here during those terrible fire storms. When it fell, it was severed from the roots, which were like spider legs elevating it above the dirt surface before it fell. There are a few root stubs left on the trunk base. I put the tree in a bucket of water and it seems to be living, at least for now, as the leaves on it are intact, still green, and staying put.
Will it generate a new root system in the water so I can replant it? Or is it doomed to die. It's been about 2 weeks since it fell over. If it has a chance to live, what steps should I take to give it the best chance?
