Mexican Fan Palm Base Trimming

We have 3 Mexican Fan Palms that have grown so much. They are about 15ft and we trim them as we should but want to know if we can pull off the old part of the frong that is close to the bottom of the tree. Some have been falling off and we would like to have a cleaner look but do not want to damage the truck.
