You might look in to treating it with a fungicide. Just follow the direction on the bottle for mixing it up and dump it right down into the trunk where the growth spear is coming out. If you tug "slightly" on the growth spear, does it seem loose or possibly just pull right out? Has it been unusually wet where you're at? Is a sprinkler situated where it would keep the palm's crown wet every day? Too much moisture can certainly cause it to start rotting inside. Try the fungicide, i've saved a couple palms by treating them with that when i've lost a growth spear after a wet winter. Good luck.
