The key item is to not let it lift its tail. I have seen a wild one that had been trapped, then carried about by putting it into a trouser leg with a knot at each end.
Sir or madam skunk was released by cutting off the end away from the teeth and holding the cut end, swinging the cut off trouser leg vigorously around the releaser's head.
The offending critter, with the old trouser leg, was flung a considerable distance into the high grass near some woods several miles from where it was caught.
You could easily tell that there was a skunk in there but the smell was really not all that bad.
