That from 1793 through 1856 pennies were huge. Like close to the size of half a dollar. But in 1856 the govt realized that the penny was worth more than a penny in copper, so they started making pennies small.
Now, as we reach the hundredth anniversary of the Lincoln Penny, the metal in the modern da penny is worth much more than a penny, which is why we may well be nearing the end of the penny coin, which is why I decided I better do whatever it takes to finish my collection from childhood. So I did.
