Yet on the other hand, this was not a wolf, and similar expressions were not made. For example, the hyena in question didn't stalk with head held high or tail curled over his head; he padded in in the regular slumped manner that his lopsided stature caused. Still, the natural instinct that he did not own the place prevented any other disrespectful canine gestures. There were few that could be successfully achieved with short legs and long forlegs, but Cu Sith had found idiocy manageable by any. Being a hyena, he could manage these motions easily.
Nevertheless, the striped hyena moved at a steady place, his round paws flatly touching the ground as he slowly shifted from paw to paw, his neck sloping and angling his back. Dark grey drapes of fur hung from from his back, reaching to the first joint of his forelegs, yet shortening towards his hindlegs as not to pass the first joint there as well. Stripes of lighter grey, similar to those of a zebras, vertically fell down the long fur at his sides, and striped horizontally, more bold, at his legs. His paws were the darker of the gray, and tail the lighter; the area which distincted him from other hyena's.
As he flicked the tassle, it was noted to be twisted into many braids, unlike the usual rough and unruly tail. His grey coat had the slightest greenish tinge, as to still remain gray but with a silent and hardly tangible tinge of dark color, like the green of deep forest pines. The hair on his back lay dormant; he was not afraid. In being a hyena, similar to meercats, he had the ability to raise the hair on his back and completely double his size. It wasn't a method the striped hyena often used; he simply was rarely scared of wolves. They may be heavier than him, yet he was already slightly taller, easily faster, and had a stronger bite. The scents in the air imposed that wolves were not the only creatures that lived here, and Cu Sith personally had no clue of who even owned the pack. He was always ready for a fight, so technically, it didn't matter.
Off subject from the hyena that paused at the border, a wild dog followed. This one was a dingo of gorgeous golden fur, pale green eyes and a delicate face. The lack of black in his muzzle showed that he hadn't the least of dog in him, and was possibly the purest of his type. His body build showed him young, somewhat lithe, but much healthier than others of his type. His life in captivity had fattened him slightly, yet his ribs were still visible outside of his chest, which showed he was no slow-moving or unhealthy pet. Fighting was not his forte; he allowed Cu Sith to work the magic if ever they found danger. But today, he did not expect it in the least. Cu Sith was not submissive; it had been Ganymede's idea to join a pack, with the both of them being new to the lands. Whether or not the hyena would stick around, Ganymede knew not, but either way, he would not be alone. His paws felt their way over the border.
"Stop," Cu Sith ordered softly. "Don't go past the border. We don't live here." He smirked, a delicate motion in his rounded square muzzle. "Really, you dogs get me sometimes." The hyena sat to his haunches, his braided tail rustling softly in the motion. Ganymede stopped, slinking back, and peering at Cu Sith's back where the wings sometimes grew, moth-like as if from some fairy-tale. The dingo guessed his patronal figure had no feel for flying at the moment, or simply wanted to be as inconspicuous as possible.
"If you aren't a dog, your name sure lies," the dingo said in his rather gentle voice, sitting close to the hyena. He was familiar with the legend from which Cu was named after, a fairy dog in Irish folklore. The only thing that didn't add up was that Cu was not a dog; otherwise, it was a decent fit. Ganymede himself had recieved his name frm Cu Sith, being both the largest moon of Jupiter, and a beautiful hero of greek mythology.
"Name's aren't everything." Cu Sith said shortly. He stared at Ganymede expectantly.
"What?"
"Bark for the alpha."
"I don't bark."
"Then howl."
"Why don't you?"
Cu Sith's dark eyes shifted curiously to Ganymede, then rolled skywards. "Are you not the one who wanted to be here?" Silence. "Then hold your own. What if I choose not to stay? Can you not think for yourself? You are old enough. I will not be your mind any longer. You will strive for intellect, not idiocy. Do you hear me?"
Ganymede nodded slowly. He did not know how he had come across this hyena; it was all rather vague. He had been rescued from being ushered back into captivity not too long ago, and both had travelled here. Whether Cu Sith thought of the dingo as unintelligent, it was hard to tell. Inside, Ganymede knew that Cu Sith was not named mistakenly; his title was symbolic. Cu Sith was an evil and terrifying demon, whether literal or figurative. Ganymede's heart was pure, and Cu Sith only near him chose not to taint it. Sometimes, Ganymede witnessed Cu Sith kill, or mislead, or steal. He knew better than to try it, and Cu Sith never convinced him for it or against him. It left him unsure. Could one really be evil and find it so easy to hide? And this linked to the second question: could one hide their soul and still be trusted? He felt a shiver run down his spine, and did not glance up to see the eyes above him, now glancing ahead. It made him uneasy suddenly, this shimmer of mistrust. But technically, the hyena had saved his life. Ganymede rose to his paws, slowly stepping forward in an even and comfortable gait, rising his tail slightly.
His howl came out as soft, yet high and audible, fluctuating its notes as if aiming them into the horizon, shooting at the sun.
