Then enjoy death if it comes to that, I guess. Archived Message

One of the many things parenting desensitizes you to.

I mean, I don't love it, but after all those diapers, it's not the end of the world.

My dad's been on one since 1995. The day I started law school, he had surgery to remove a bunch of cancer from his colon.

Not to get too philosophical, but he's seen me graduate from law school, get married, he's gotten to know his two grandkids and he and mym mom have traveled to four continents after his cancer surgery.

The colostomy bags suck, but I think my dad would laugh at that last paragraph.

The mother of a woman my friend is dating underwent a colonoscopy procedure during which a polyp was removed. Unfortunately, the physician doing the procedure perforated the bowel. An infection resulted and I guess a portion of the bowel either had to be removed or closed up to promote healing. In any event, the woman now gets to deal with colostomy bags for at least the next 6 months and perhaps for the rest of her life.

Which got me thinking - I'm approaching the age that colonoscopies are recommended for men. I think I might prefer to die of colon cancer than to spend my last 2 or 3 decades on this earth using colostomy bags.
