Hi everyone !!
I became veery lately hooked on U2's "Vertigo" because of a compilation I purchased a while ago.
I didn't know why, until it struck me only 3 days afterwards, after much subconscious awakening, that I've been knowing all too much already about the song, ever since ... February 1995 (!)
...when back then, the 1994 single was called "One Way Street"
Bono is definitely the strongest selling and likeable factor of the Irish band, but also the weakest. Unless you're impressed by him or have a crush on him (=P), there isn't much left in U2's sound, that you can have and want already plus more in The Soup Dragons, and now The High Fidelity.
I don't know to which degree each have listened to each other. The only other link I know of also places The Soup Dragons as predecessors : the strings outro on "Americana Sweetmeat" / "Sweetmeat (12")" with the one in Batman's soundtrack "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" – suspected person whose name appear on both recordings : Marius deVries
...?
Hehehee
Cheers,
Pykundaïchũnd (ex-TJP)
P.S. to all - you know where the right direction is, so :
get your feet on a one way street, and keep on...ROCKING !!!!
