That scanner you mention 20-424 is also known as the Radio Shack PRO-2018, and tops out at 512MHz as far as the coverage goes.
And i assume you live in Omaha, Nebraska?
If the rescue squad you are trying to monitor is an Omaha fire & Rescue unit...you will be out of luck, because ALL of Omaha fire and rescue and Omaha police are all part of the Omaha Regional Interoperability Network (ORION)
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=2361
and in order to monitor Omaha Fire & Rescue you will need an APCO 25 phase 2 scanner that can decode CQPSK modulation.
such as the Uniden BCD536HP http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/BCD536HP
click here to view the owners manual for the scanner you have>>> http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/doc69/69290.pdf
best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
