I Heart Boo revue review... Posted by jefflewis on 10/30/2009, 1:13 pm It was lots of fun, and there were lots of highlights! Personally I thought the most flabbergasting event was Peter Dizozza, dressed as Abraham Lincoln, covering Diane Cluck's Monte Carlo on piano... beautiful, chilling, bizarre, amazing!!! Also loved Neal Kelly's incredible Purple Organ cover, and Rav Schmuel doing that song about being a guy who dies early on in War Of The Worlds (an Elastic No-No Band song?), really hard to imagine the original version could be half as good, Rav really knocked it out of the park. Many memorable moments, and a great example of how many awesome songs are cranked out by all you Sidewalk writers, top notch.  Post a Response

Jon Berger doing a great spoken version of Lach's "Jester", great Phoebe Kreutz versions (including my own which I was very proud of not screwing up any lyrics on!), oh yeah another big highlight was the Fight Club song as sung by a cute innocent ladybug, most non-violent creature one could imagine, totally perfect! Oh yeah, and who originally wrote that "You Broke My F-cking Heart" song? Great! So many other things to try to remember... I'm leaving out lots. Only down side was that by the time I got to Living Room afterwards I had just missed Paleface's last song.  Post a Response

Posted by squirrelhouse on 10/30/2009, 4:34 pm, in reply to "Re: I Heart Boo revue review..." yeah jeff did phoebe's 'ballad of throat culture' like it was his own. he changed 'smoking crack with ben vereen' to 'smoking crack with adam green.' rav made 'the guy who dies' sound like his own song too, he said he was going to work it into his future sets. ariel bitran also did a medley including daniel bernstein's 'low and wet', some lach "you can't make a bong out of an i-pod...", becca hasselbrook's piano version of telethon's 'fight club' was great and interesting to hear by a female. two of the most powerful were emily einhorn and emily moment doing covers of off-scene artists. crabs on banjo did herb scher's 'tower records is gone' which was freaking hilarious. joe crow did soft black's 'you put a spell on me,' and also the best 'klaus kinski' i ever saw, at the piano with his pants down.  Post a Response

I got a real thrill out of covering Rachel Lipson and Prewar a couple of years ago (both songs same two chords, you see), and I'm really into this stuff in general...
