Wow, those are fascinating and counterintuive changes. You wouldn't think they'd work, but the contour of the melody holds them together. There's also a good lesson for Songwriting 101 there: put the adventurous stuff in the verses so that the chorus is more direct and thus more intense.
At some point in the mid-90s I decided that the ideal song should involve someone shouting "Woohoo!" Right after that "Song 2" came out. I'll always think fondly of Blur for being so in touch with my personal zeitgeist back then. Until this song, though, I'd never heard anything else by them. I'm intrigued; I'll have to check out more.
