That's kinda my whole point! Assuming that we wouldn't know basic things like the benefits of copyrighting our work, etc. It was this, combined with the fact that these were unrelated issues, that caused me to write what I wrote in the tone that I wrote it. If I offended you, I apologize.
However, when you give advice in the future, consider approaching your advice-giving with the understanding that the person or audience that you're addressing may already know the things you're recommending. Beginning a sentence with "You may already know this, but..." or "Perhaps you've done this but if you haven't..." will simultaneously empower your audience and allow those who don't yet know as much as you do to benefit from the time and effort you've spent learning about these things.
