Sorry Pablo--I normally agree with you on most things, but you are being sold a bill of good by a different group of people with just as much vested interest as the pharmaceutical companies.
My day job is as an editor of scientific journals, and there is plenty of good solid scientific documentation for how the 1917 pandemic occurred, as well as how immunizations have controlled polio, whooping cough, measles, etc.
Pharma companies don't make big money on vaccines--they make it on unnecessary prescription drugs. And its not only about "who benefits" (although you have to look closely at that) but there is also some good hard science being done.
I do agree with you about how the government makes use of these health emergencies to carry out their other agendas (bird flu! west nile!) but that doesn't mean that these aren't real diseases that can really be prevented.
Also (as someone who also worked the other side of the fence, at a "new age" publishing and recording company), I know that MOST "healers", "homeopaths", "alternative doctors", "alternative scientists" etc. are mainly interested in their own careers and will say just about anything to further that cause. If you're gonna be skeptical, you should be REALLY skeptical.
