for my part, i'm a feminist, born and raised.
and as far as music goes, almost all of my favorite songwriters and performers since i was a kid have been women. ever since then i have made an effort to buy and see and learn women's music, because i think it's incredibly exciting and fresh and diverse, and it has always had a LOT to teach me.
what's been my unfortunate experience (a few times and certainly not in this scene), is that some women songwriters look at me and see "part of the problem," and are suspicious of a man who truly is into music made by women. which hurts and offends me because of my musical heritage, because of my upbringing, and because i am a champion of women who write songs and play shows.
there's all kinds of men songwriters out there giving me a bad name, and i venture to say there's some women songwriters out there who are giving you ladies a bad name as well. we just have to keep giving each other the benefit of the doubt.
there's my two cents!
i got yer letter/thanks for the offer
