Howdy..I live in Tulsa, OK(yes Oklahoma is just 'OK')..I belong to the Green Country Bluegrass Association here and also play with a local band(Kentucky Blue). Bill Monroe has been my inspiration for many years..as I play(?) the mandolin..even while I lived in Alaska..I bought my first mandolin in Anchorage..yes..there is indeed bluegrass in Alaska..as well as blue ice, water, sky and in the winter..blue body parts..there are a couple of annual festivals up there ..any way back to my story. Others who inspire me as much or more than BM..are the numerous 'back porch' ..'basement'..'garage'..'under the tree'..and what ever other names that we pickers have who pick and sing just for the fun of it. My website is not only dedicated to 'The Father of Bluegrass Music', but more to those who donate their time and talents to their communities. Many of us play at nursing homes, retirement homes, local fun type of events, without a nickle of compensation..AND THAT'S OK WITH US!!
The organization(website) focuses on these selfless folks in four states: Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. I have named this organization "Mid America BluegrassAssociation"..'cause we are almost the geographical "mid"dle of America.
I am seeking any information about people in communities who are donating their time so they can be recognized. If you and any of your viewers would like to submit photo's and a brief description send them to mba@dsocttbluegrass.com. Please keep the files around 5k. My site can be viewed at: www.dscottbluegrass.com. Drop in and look around. Send me an email to let me know what you think. Thanks. Would you post a link to my site..I'll do the same for you.
