Five-piece bluegrass band that brings a newgrassy approach to dance-based jam audiences. As a 2003 IBMA showcase band, StrungOver is dedicated to preserving traditional bluegrass roots in its music. It is also important to the band, however, that the music be progressive, attracting non-typical bluegrass audiences. StrungOver has a talented songwriter on its team (not in the band), so the new guitarist-vocalist will have at his/her disposal original songs to work with. StrungOver is checking out talented bluegrass guitarists for a permanent position in the band. The person we are looking for should be ready to consider moving to Santa Cruz, except in exceptional cases in which the band itself considers relocating. This person must also be able to accomodate to StrungOver's national touring schedule. In addition, the person we are looking for has the following qualities:
o musically fluent in contemporary, straightahead bluegrass style
o strong lead and harmony vocals (in bluegrass style)
o familiar in general with newgrass and dawg music
o able to back up extended improvisatory crescendos, "jams", in a dynamic and creative way
o finally, an open mind concerning the direction of bluegrass and its relationship to liberal audiences.
