In this case, the EFL can't be blamed. Gateshead knew the rules, as do all the clubs. Whether Gateshead Council have other plans for the land over the next 10 years or whether it was the sheer incompetence of that council, there is no legal guarantee that Gateshead FC can have a ground for the next 10 years. If it were residential land, the club could have forced the council to sell the freehold but I'm not sure if that is the case for commercial land. Be interesting to know who owns the freehold at Boundary Park.
