I’ve said it before signing players 30 years or above on two years deals is madness. They rarely help the building of a side in the long run, there are exceptions obviously (Peter Clarke) but he was super fit and a decent footballer.
Players are peaking now at around 26 and are spent by the time they’re 30 due to the speed of the game and the number of games, etc. It’s a young man’s game now IMO.
We need a team of hungry youngish players, the type Joe brought in, ones that want to learn and develop.
It’s going to be an interesting next 3 or 4 months.
Sutton as an example has come on so much this year and will be a steady if unspectacular player in the next couple of years. Those are the type of players we should be scouting for.
