Mellon with his cv and promotions was on paper a very suitable candidate.
There are no guarantees whoever we choose and TBF Mellon hasn’t failed just yet although the signs are not good.
IMO the next manager has to be a young forward thinking coach with a good track record of bringing young players through and more importantly advocates playing an exciting brand of attacking football.
In hindsight I think Mike Williamson who was at Gateshead would have been a perfect choice, he’s got MK Dons from lower mid table to the fringe of automatic promotion in 3 months.
I think the appointment of Mellon was an attempt to fast track promotion in one season. It hasn’t worked unfortunately and I think I would prefer a fresh approach with a modern innovated coach leaning towards long term sustainability.
