Like most, I guess, I was shocked at the starting XI with both Fondop and Norwood on the bench, along with the only other likely goal scorer (Sharon). But surely this would at least mean we’d try to keep the ball on the deck and play to feet. Not a bit of it. So Garner and Dallas were immediately rendered ineffective and without Green’s pace and occasional trickery we had zero attacking threat until the second half substitutions were made .
Our midfield was, needless to say, non-existent. I actually sorry for young Hammond, who just doesn’t have the physical strength to compete in this division and is now playing with zero confidence, as emphasised by his decision to pass sideways when he could have tried a shot at 0-0. Conlon, on the other hand, should be trying to boss midfield with his experience and track record but did nothing.
We are just so predictable with everything we do and must be a dream to play against in that opposition managers can tell their players exactly what to expect - the long diagonal from the back fir Kitch to try to nod on. And that’s it.’
At the back, Hobson had an absolute shocker and looked likely to mess up every time the ball was near him, Raglan did ok (ish) but Hogan was poor in this game and certainly didn’t lead by example. Were it not for the armband you wouldn’t have known he was captain.
Their first goal may have been offside but the cross shouldn’t have come in and there was zero marking in the box. We might have equalised just before halftime when Dallas made his one contribution but it would have been more than we deserved.
At least there was some presence upfront when F and N came on and a really clever chip from Norwood gave Dallas an opportunity which he totally messed up.
To be honest, I was almost relieved when they scored their second because I could stop kidding myself there was still hope of escaping with a point.
Without Green on the wing I don’t think we are capable of playing any different to this and my glass is half empty right now.
Sorry, not much of a report - more of a sad whinge!
