Sometimes during the month of March, we'd find Mallards up river in Pitmiktalik, 25 miles south of Stebbins! Due to the swift current, shallow parts of the River are open year round, usually at about 10-15 miles. However, this is rare, and while boating out in the ocean in March, Murres, Golden Eyes and Sea Gulls can be seen. But this spring is late and open leads in the ice just started a few weeks ago! Norton Sound was completely frozen in this year! Mukluk time!
