If I understand he said like all men of his class of that time that women were to serve men. He thought like all men of his class that men were to pursue women but he no longer pursued them after he had conquered them. His interest in Salome continued because she rejected all men physically. It seems that in speaking of women he said what he really thought unlike others in his day. So maybe we should assess his thought based on the mores of his time?
