As a successful developer, Trump was known for voluntarily giving real estate investors advice, tips. Having been taken under Donald Trumpís wing, the real estate investor would believe they had made a genuine friend in Trump, that Trump was magnanimously helping them. They didnít realize it was part of the con. But once they made a profit, Trump would call them up demanding half of the money for showing them how to make it. If they did not pay him half, Trump would not only cut them off but do what he could to hurt their business interests. Trump would sometimes tell the young investor to give him half of their profits in exchange for half of whatever Trump made on deals, of which Trump knew were sure to lose money. Trump had more tricks up his sleeve than David Copperfield. He was the prototype of the NA ambitious predator, vain, over-competitive and power-hungry, a regular Jabba the Hut greedily wheeling and dealing in the high paced, cut throat New York warzone. He is the dealmaker par excellence like Gordon Gekko and brash like Joan Rivers. A known huckster in business, Trump made a hobby out of routinely ripping off contractors.
Trumpís rise to billionaire status was due in large part to another NA quality, his non-stop energy. Hypomania and cyclothymia are also mood conditions associated with the NA type because the lack of a P gene makes it hard to regulate the balance of moods. Moodswing by Dr. Fieve confirms the diagnosis of Teddy Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, and Winston Churchill as hypomanics. Ironically, they are also all NA types. Trump is a bonafide hypomanic who ran his campaign through exuberance and momentum. He is wired so that he only needs four hours of sleep at night to function at the pace that he does, a likely defense mechanism for somebody with huge ambitions that can only really rely on himself internally. And like Churchill, Hemingway and Roosevelt, Trump is also very driven and productive but in his capacity as a confrontational-independent (an independent go-getter).
Trump is much like Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt wrote an essay called the strenuous life. He was a huge proponent of the Puritan work ethic in action. It was all ego driven, though. He worked at a hypomanic pace, read voraciously and ran on very little sleep. Hemingway was quite similar in that he could write nonstop for months on only two hours of sleep. In many way, NPA types are less persistent and less industrious due to the weaker appetites they have because they can diffuse it through group activity. NA is the independent go-getter.
Flashback: the dnc versus rnc conventions and much of the campaign pitted a battle between Hillary's P trait versus Trump's lack of a P trait. the Hillary crowd declaring "Stronger Together" is better than Trump's go-it-alone rugged individualism (which we see now in his aggressive rhetoric to the UN). The Trump Crowd counters back that a One Man Army can get more done in a single day than a bunch of corrupt bureaucrats can in a month. Trump is not an overbearing personality. He's been a go-it-alone guy for nearly his entire life. Both the NPA and NA are confrontational, but the NA type is a confrontational-independent and the NPA type is a confrontational-dependent. As a result, the NA type is more macho and physically dominant than the NPA type. Like Roosevelt, Churchill, and Hemingway, Trump is drawn to the theater of War.
Some have pointed out that Trump can seem like a NPA. But itís highly unlikely that a NPA type world leader would tweet all day just to make personal attacks or give away military secrets. Maybe as a candidate, thatís one thing, but as a world leader, thatís highly unorthodox. As an NA, Trump tends to be highly impulsive and does not think before he acts, but takes action first with a disregard for consequences. This overlaps with the title of Hemingway's biography, "A Life Without Consequences."
Chris Christie is a good example of an NPA type and although he is direct, Christie didn't have enough independence in him to break from the party line and grab the mantle of republican outsider. Chris Christie can be courageous, but not brash, because at the end of the day he's still a party guy. Christie will take courageous stands, but not outrageous ones. That P gene is operating just enough that he doesn't rip things apart, but keeps the pillars of his party glued together. Remember that the P gene defines the norm for ways of acting and reacting in social-political groups....so it's expected, that in spite of their bluster, NPA types won't deviate too far outside those boundaries. In contrast, Trump is rewriting the presidential playbook as both maverick and huckster.
A potential downside to Trump's NA style is that he's sure to create an unpredictable atmosphere due to his chaotic style. This has already come to fruition. Trump has hurt relations with the Europeans by pulling out of the Paris Climate agreement and directing reckless comments at the mayor of London. Trump's unreflective and rash strategy to pressure China into taking out Kim Jong Un only drove more of a wedge between China and the US. Trump's bombing of Syria was a complete 360 from the isolationist foreign policy he committed to in the election. Trump is all over the place. Every day there are conflicting statements put out between him and Rex Tillerson or other P type members in his cabinet. As an NA, Trump does not care much about forging bonds with other countries and is probably so bored dealing with complicated issues like the economy and jobs, that he might as well start a war with North Korea. Hillary Clinton has noted that Trumpís speech at the U.N. was ďdark and dangerousĒ. This is precisely the type of position a person with the P gene would take. The evolutionary function of the P gene is to keep society glued together through the forging of bonds, solidarity. That's what builds civilizations and keeps things functioning.
Another downside to his NA style is that Trump has no brakes on his vengefulness....look at his response to Cruz's low blow attack. look at his vendetta with megyn kelly. look at his response to lindsay graham. he gave out graham's phone number. the accusations he leveled at the Khans. His tweets about Morning Joe and Joeís wife. His threat of total destruction on North Korea. Trumpís level of vindictiveness is too new, too outside the norm for the way candidates typically act, for a NPA type but at the same time puts the US in a position of disregarding more refined political interests. As an NA, Trump has no ability to submerge his vindictive rages in accordance with a master plan or plot. He canít dispense of his vindictive rages sneakily like Vladimir Putin can (Putin is a PA- of course). The PA makes for an individual capable of sneaky revenge. Trump is right out in the open, thumping his chest out. This clearly excludes him from being a PA type, and if he is clearly excluded from being a PA type, then he is clearly excluded from being a NPA type.
