I checked into a hotel last night. It's amazing how the N types that work the front desk, the service desk, the baggage, the parking, the restaurants all create this false reality where you are central to their life and they are always happy, positive and upbeat. Then it's even funnier when other guests say hello and smile passing you by like the false reality is spreading. I can picture the hotel desk working reading books about modeling positive states but when people try to play the game back, they don't like that because you're mocking them, but they never break face. to go negative on a guest, even behind the guest's back to another employee, is equivalent to breaking down, having a meltdown, even the most negative guests' behavior are supposed to be reframed in a positive sugarcoated way. as I was walking out the greeter at the front was talking to a couple and stopped to turn and flash me a big smile and tell me to have a great day, like me and her are in a relationship and she has been waiting all day just to tell me that. The guy vacuuming the red carpet in front even stops the vacuum as I pass through and gives me this "good morning, sir." I've seen more gingival smiles in the last hour than the last year. and to top it off Christmas carols are playing through the hallways, "down with the chimney goes st. nick..." its just an Ney-N world.
