My personal experience is strongest for the Greatest Generation (those fighting WWII) because they were my parents. And I remember well their parents, those born in the late nineteenth and very early twentieth century. And I admire many attributes of both those generation groups. Both generations saw profound changes with my grandparents' generation seeing the change from horse and buggy to a rocket to the moon. My grandparents' generation were reserved, humble, serious and fairly rigid people while my parents' generation were open, bold and tough and practical, pragmatic people.
But a generation I know only from secondary sources is one that spans from Frank Lloyd Wright by the furthest stretch to Franklin Roosevelt. They were iconoclastic freethinkers and optimistic dreamers. The roots of their inspiration probably arose from Darwin and Freud
