This topic came to my attention after I was watching the Hurricane coverage in Florida. My mom told me stories about how during the depression years they migrated to find work in the fields. She told me about a place called Belle Glade Florida and Kreamer Island. She was just a little girl but remember it because of how horrified she was of the snakes that were everywhere.
Belle Glade is on the shores of Lake Ochachobe in South Florida, and it now known as the area that gave us the most big league football players, but it was then known as a place where Roosevelt drained lands and formed extremely fertile farmland. Thus my family came to be there for a short time in the early 1930s. But as the documentary shows if you have time to watch the 1960 Edward R. Murrow video Harvest of Shame it because a base camp for migrant farm workers.
The NPA point is that these people seem non-aggressive types hampered by lack of education-truly a bad combination.
I won't say, "Enjoy the tapes" but they are amazing in what they show.
