There's always the option of taking a step back and looking at a list of headgear - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_headgear . Some good pictures there.
Let us not forget in harsher climates that headwear has functional uses beyond the simple aesthetic. They can help the wearer feel warmer or cooler, act to confer shade from a merciless sun, and so on. Also some hats have a professional, cultural or religious application. All this is info is why I find it hard to even correlate hat wearage with perfectionism, let alone do a causal link.
