A tough question, as there are so many variations on the theme. Apart from the NPA character types and temperaments of the two individuals, there are many other factors that come into play: other facets of "personality", intelligence, culture, nurture, etc., as well as all the factors of the real-life situation that can influence a relationship positively or negatively.
Nevertheless, by learning what to reasonably expect in behavior from the various NPA types, one can avoid obvious pitfalls that are certain to doom a relationship. One that we have belabored in the past is a mismatch in dominance and submissiveness, where the dependent partner is subjected to abuse (often without realizing it).
So, my advice to a young lady would be to keep a sharp eye out for potentially abusive relationships. "Pay very close attention to how he treats other people, because that is how he will treat you one day."
