I guess it's a matter of taste. Personally I can't stand it and don't really count it to the series. It really is too Western and the actors are just embarrasing, especially Terri's performance seems like a parody of her character from Book I and II. ![]()
: Hi everyone,
: I finished up watching all three
: books of N&S on dvd on Friday. I'll
: have to admit I didn't love Book III
: like the first two, but I think I
: appreciated it a bit more. Since
: this is really the first time I've
: been able to watch the entire three
: miniseries back to back and with the
: same picture quality (give or take) I
: decided to throw in a few of my
: thoughts of Book III:
: Pros:
: --The return of original cast members
: --Bent's storyline as he falls
: further and further into insanity.
: The earring and walking cane elements
: were a nice touch.
: --The music...while besides the
: opening score it wasn't the same as
: the originals, there were still some
: nice compositions, including the
: music for Charles and Willa.
: --An appearance by Brett albeit
: brief.
: --Ashton's storyline trying to regain
: Mont Royal only to discover it's been
: burned to the ground.
: --Madeline slapping the crap out of
: Ashton (way LONG overdo). My
: favorite scene.
: --A sort of believability to the way
: the story unfolds. I could see
: Madeline continuing to help the freed
: slaves, and Charles leaving home to
: find himself, especially after losing
: Augusta.
: --The recreation of the Mont Royal
: ruins and front gate.
:
: Cons:
: --The less than stellar production
: value....recycled costumes that other
: characters wore in previous Books,
: and it being filmed in Texas when
: most of the story takes place
: elsewhere.
: --That damn red tone to the picture
: quality and the way the characters
: eyes are illuminated by light.
: --The explanation to Maude's
: disappearance?
: --Why a third Isabel?
: --Too much of a western feel.
: --A different Charles.
: --No Billy.
: --Ashton became too comical.
: --Too short...characters should have
: been fleshed out better and old ones
: reappearing more to make it the same
: length of the first two.
: --Where's Semiramis and Ezra, and why
: have they basically been replaced by
: Isaac and Jane?
: --The sudden appearance of Cooper
: after he's been absent from the first
: two miniseries.
: --An insanely different house used
: for Belvedere.
: These are just thoughts that came to
: mind. I can't think of any others
: right now. While I have mixed
: feelings about it, I'd never leave it
: out when I watch N&S again. Despite
: it's flaws, it's still part of the
: story.
