Posted by Michael Wagner Cover such as lilly pads and sawgrass, are also the home of many different types of baitfish, which is a steady food supply for the Bass. I guess you could compare it to living within a Free supermarket, would you leave? Now, although lilly pads and sawgrass provide sufficient cover for Bass basically year round, the most common places to find bass are around more permanent structures such as underwater logs, stumps and rubble. If you have a environment that includes all the above together, your best bet is to stay right their and get that Bass in the boat, because you are in Bass Heaven, and they are there! Here is a good rule of thumb when out there Bassin: The more structure and cover in the area, the better the chances of landing the Trophy Bass. Another great addon here is, if you have tons of cover and structure located on the edge of a steep drop-off. This is prime real estate and the larger Bass in the vecinity will have claimed it as their personal territory and will defend it visciously! When fishing in deeper cover you will want to use a rattle. I might add here: A rattle should only be used in low-visibility water and deep depths. The purpose of a rattle is to attract the Bass by vibration. A Bass has a detailed sensory network along its spine called "The Lateral Line". They use this when it is too difficult to see. Using a rattle may work for you at certain times in regular conditions, but is designed for deep or murky waters. I hope I have helped at least one person with this post... As we all know, Largemouth Bass love to be kept hidden in cover. Their are many different reasons for this: Shade, protection and a hefty food supply are just a couple.
I would just like to mention for any of you that do not already know, Bass do not have eye lids, and therefore would go blind, if left exposed to prolonged sunlight.
