My two cents worth: Affordable pens that write well, and are easily restored from the 1930s--1950s include a lot of third-tier pens: Arnold, Esterbrook, Jefferson, all the Wearever brands (Pioneer, Supreme, Onward, Treasure, etc.) plus the big-name brands made for the chain stores to sell. The new collector should be able to get decent restorable pens for from ten to $25, or so.
